How to Download an eOCI Card?

eOCI card is the digital version of the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card. This digital version allows the holders to access and use the benefits of their OCI status without having to carry the physical booklet. As with the original OCI, this also permits the holder to visit India as many times as they require without getting a separate visa. With the recently introduced citizenship rules, it has become convenient for Overseas Citizens of India to carry their vital identification on their personal devices.

Important Considerations

The systemic shift from physical copies to digital OCI cards is intentional. This reduces paperwork and increases efficiency. You need to consider a few points, such as:

  • The introduction of eOCI as the standard does not make the physical copy invalid. You can take the physical booklet with you if you like.
  • You should download the eOCI card in a secure device. Do not share it with unguarded digital devices.
  • It is a new regulation, so you can expect that airport staff and certain officials are not familiar with it yet.
