The recent end of Automatic EAD Extension is a <strong>major<\/strong> disruption because EAD approvals often take <strong>6\u201312 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 id=\"what-was-automatic-ead-renewal\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What was <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/indiansinusa\/comments\/1ojwdha\/big_change_no_more_automatic_ead_extensions_after\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web3x&amp;utm_name=web3xcss&amp;utm_term=1&amp;utm_content=share_button\"><strong>Automatic EAD Renewal<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>When you applied to renew your EAD (Form I-765), USCIS automatically extended your work authorization for a set period <strong>while your renewal was still pending<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"how-long-was-the-automatic-extension\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How long was the automatic extension?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Initially: <strong>180 days<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later expanded: <strong>Up to 540 days<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This meant you could:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep your job<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep getting paid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update your I-9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay legally employed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>even if USCIS hadn\u2019t approved your new EAD yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers were also allowed to accept:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your <strong>expired EAD card<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your <strong>I-797 receipt notice<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>as proof that you could keep working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"what-has-changed-now\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What has changed now?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For renewal applications filed <strong>on or after October 30, 2025<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>No more automatic extension.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When your current EAD expires, <strong>you must stop working<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can resume only when the new card is approved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you filed before this date, you&#8217;re still covered under the old <strong>540-day extension rule<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is there any category which still get an automatic EAD extension?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few categories still have limited buffers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>TPS recipients<\/strong> \u2013 may get extensions via Federal Register notices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/indiansinusa\/comments\/1oo5wjx\/f1_stem_opt_students_ead_autoextension_rule\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web3x&amp;utm_name=web3xcss&amp;utm_term=1&amp;utm_content=share_button\"><strong>F-1 STEM OPT<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 automatic 180-day extension still exists<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>L-2 and E-2 spouses<\/strong> \u2013 authorized to work based on status, not EAD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need your renewal or extension process to be hassle free and devoid of the slightest chance of an error, apply for your renewal through our <a href=\"https:\/\/documitra.com\/ead-card\">EAD Renewal<\/a>. These are the only groups that continue to qualify:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"1-diplomatic-official-visa-holders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Diplomatic &amp; Official Visa Holders<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A-1, A-2<\/strong> (Diplomatic visas)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>G-1 through G-4<\/strong> (International organization personnel)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>NATO<\/strong> visa classes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"2-b-1-b-2-visitor-visa-renewals-primarily-for-mexico\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. B-1\/B-2 Visitor Visa Renewals (Primarily for Mexico)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Limited interview waivers are still available for <strong>Mexican nationals<\/strong> renewing <strong>Border Crossing Cards (BCC)<\/strong> or <strong>B-1\/B-2 visas<\/strong>, but only if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The previous visa was <strong>full validity<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The visa expired <strong>within the last 12 months<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"3-applicants-meeting-these-conditions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Applicants Meeting these Conditions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For non-diplomatic visas, waivers may be granted <strong>only if all of the following are true<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your <strong>previous US visa was full validity<\/strong> (e.g., 10-year B-1\/B-2, 3-year H-1B)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It <strong>expired less than 12 months ago<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have <strong>no visa refusals<\/strong> on record<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You were <strong>18 years or older<\/strong> when the previous visa was issued<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your situation shows <strong>low security and low fraud risk<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What about the Age Exemption in Interview Waiver Program?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children under 14 and adults over 79 <strong>no longer<\/strong> automatically qualify for waivers.
