Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) Updates in 2025

Ever returned from an international trip only to be stuck in a painfully long immigration line, wondering if there’s a faster way through it all? You’re not alone. For frequent flyers, global professionals, and even families hopping borders a few times a year, airport bottlenecks can turn a smooth trip into a frustrating experience. But there’s good news.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has taken a major step forward—revamping its Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) in February 2025 to be faster, smarter, and more traveler-friendly than ever before.

What is TTP?
The Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) are a collection of U.S. government-run initiatives designed to expedite the border clearance process for pre-approved, low-risk individuals entering the United States.

TTP includes four key programs:

  1. Global Entry (GEP) – For international travelers entering the U.S. via air, land, or sea.
  2. SENTRI – For U.S. residents crossing frequently via the southern land border (primarily Mexico).
  3. NEXUS – A bi-national program for travelers between the U.S. and Canada.
  4. FAST – For commercial truck drivers crossing North American land borders.

Each program serves a different audience, but the philosophy is the same: trusted travelers deserve trusted access.

What’s New with TTP Services?
In a recent upgrade to its online ecosystem, CBP has enhanced the TTP services via the CBP Help webpage, introducing self-service tools that significantly reduce the need for in-person visits.

TTP members can now:

  • Update vital documents (visas, passports, driver’s licenses)
  • Submit name change requests (post-marriage, divorce, or legal name changes)
  • Update citizenship status
  • Resolve login or payment issues
  • Seek general program guidance

These upgrades are accessible through the “Ask a Question” section of the page.

Why Global Entry (GEP) Is Worth It

Of all the programs under the TTP umbrella, Global Entry is by far the most popular—and for good reason.

Designed for international air travelers, GEP allows members to bypass long immigration lines by using automated kiosks at select U.S. airports. But the benefits go beyond just speed.

What You Get with Global Entry:

  • Automated clearance through U.S. customs at over 75 airports (listed below)
  • Access to TSA Pre-Check, expediting your security clearance during domestic flights
  • Recognition from partner countries like Canada and Mexico, facilitating smoother border crossings
  • Validity for 5 years at a one-time fee (currently $120)
  • Dedicated entry lanes at select land border crossings

For frequent travelers, this isn’t a perk—it’s a lifesaver. It can cut down hours of wait time every year, eliminate pre-departure anxiety, and make international travel feel a lot more like hopping a regional flight.
